Vembanad Lake, Kerala
Vembanad Lake is India's longest lake, locally known as Vembanad Kayal. Vembanad Lake is one of Asia's largest fresh water lakes. Vembanad Lake is located just 14 km from Kottayam town in Kerala and has got giant water reservoir and a major natural resource. The lake borders major districts like Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam and its wetland covers 1512 Sq. km with dense vegetation on its bank is a breathtaking sight.
Vembanad Lake is separated from the Arabian Sea though a narrow stretch of sand called as Barrier Island. Several rivers flow into the lake including Achenkovil, Manimala, Meenachil, Muvattupuzha, Pamba, and Periyar. The Vembanad Lake is approximately 14 km wide at its broadest point.
The Lake is well-known for its incomparable scenic beauty, lush green surroundings, and exciting boat cruises. Being a popular holiday spot in Kerala, the Vembanad Lake provides tremendous facilities for boat cruising, fishing and sightseeing.

How to get there:
Nearest airport: Nearest airport is Cochin Airport around 20 kms from Kottayam.
Nearest Railway station: Railway station is 15 km from Vembanad Lake in Kottayam.
Water: One can also travel by boat, right from Cochin. There is regular boat service from Cochin Boat Jetty to Kumarakom.
Road: Kerala State Road Transport Corporation buses have good service from Cochin, Thrivananthapuram Calicut.
