Bekal is a Fort which is located Pallikare village 16 km south of Kasargod of Kerala state; Bekal is situated on the seashore and it is one of the major tourist attractions of Kerala. Bekal fort is 300 years old spreading across 40 acres of land, which was built by Shivappa Naik of Ikkeri Dynasty.

Many rulers ruled from this fort - Kolathiri Rajas, the Vijayanagar Empire, Haider Ali, and Tippu sultan and later came under British control. In the middle of the fort we can find an observation tower earlier used to keep huge cannons and one can have a beautiful view of the Arabian Sea and some important places in the surrounding including the famous Bekal Beach; at the entrance of the fort there is a Hanuman temple; and just outside there is mosque built by Tippu sultan.

The Bekal Fort is one of the great historical and archaeological monuments. There are many underground passages which are closed to the public, now the Bekal fort is preserved by the Archaeological Department of the Government of India.

Bekal Beach is about 1 km from the fort; Bekal Resorts Development Corporation (BRDC) has made a beautiful pavement for the tourist to have an ample view of the fine costal line and also can enjoy the incredible view of the Bekal Fort.

In the evening hours the beach is illuminated so that the tourists can spend more time even after the sun set. A children's park has been developed by the BRDC.

Near by tourist attraction is Aqua Park situated in Bekal Beach, kappil Beach, pallikare Beach, Chandragiri Fort, Ananthpura lake temple, Valiyaparamba backwaters, and Ranipuram - a beautiful hill station.

How to get there:

Nearest Airport: The nearest airport is in Mangalore around 50 km which is in Karnataka state and Karipur International Airport, Kozhikode is about 200 km away.

Nearest Railhead: The nearest railway station is in Kasargod, about 16 km which lies on he national high way.

By road: Bekal fort is well connected by road network.
